Savas Beatie prepares for the debut of new Gettysburg book in time for the Gettysburgs 150th Anniversary
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., May 17, 2013 New this month is The Gettysburg Campaign in Numbers and Losses by J. David Petruzzi and Steven Stanley, a full-color book with orders of battle that are presented for the first time in print.
Steve and I are very excited to present this new book to our readers to highlight the troops and casualties not only at the main Battle of Gettysburg, but for 41 other engagements (large and small) that took place during the Gettysburg Campaign, said Petruzzi. Both sides suffered approximately 60,000 casualties during the five weeks of the campaign, and they all deserve to be noted and remembered.
The Gettysburg Campaign in Numbers and Losses allows readers of the campaign to visualize and understand blow-by-blow how the unfolding action affected the individual corps, divisions, brigades, and regiments. Petruzzi and Stanleys new book reminds us of these often forgotten engagements and places them within the context of the campaign as a whole, said Scott Mingus, author of Confederate General William Extra Billy Smith. This is a solid and long-needed addition to the Gettysburg historiography by a talented writer and a skillful mapmaker.
Each presentation in The Gettysburg Campaign in Numbers and Losses includes a synopsis of the engagement; photos of the commanders; original maps of the fighting; an order of battle with numbers and losses (including killed, wounded, captured, and missing); charts and graphs of relative strengths and losses; and a conclusion of how the fighting affected each side and the course of the campaign.
Petruzzi and Stanley are ready to get their book into the hands of anybody and everybody interested in the Gettysburg Campaign. More information on the book can be found at www.savasbeatie.com.
